The Berlin Underground

Just had to post about how clean the subway system is here.  I was shocked to hear one of the locals referring to it as "a bit messy." Especially considering how downright filthy the NYC subway system is.  (Of course, he might have been comparing theirs to the opulence of the Russian underground...) We sure could learn a thing or two from our European counterparts.

While I generally agree with your assessment of European metro/subway/underground stations versus the New York subway system (this applies to the London Underground as well, for example), I will say that New York's subway system looks about as spotless as a museum when you compare it with how looked in the early '80s (I lived in Brooklyn then and though I was in elementary school, I remember it well). I guess the overall point is that it's all a matter of comparison. Nevertheless, I've been wanting to visit Berlin for a long time now.
